Speedway Division

The Meeting started in explosive fashion when the overall Leader, Charlie Venegas was excluded in the re-run Heat 1 for wiping out James Mann on the last lap in which Barlow got 3 points as he attempted to reign in Venegas’s lead.  Sheffield’s Paul Cooper, riding in his last meeting before returning to the UK, won Heat 2 from the gate with Shawn McConnell 2nd, while in Heat 3 young Ben Warburton, a former Sheffield 2nd half rider looked impressive to take a 2nd place behind Adam Mittl.  McConnell gained a heat win in his 2nd qualifying heat over a disappointing Venegas. Both Barlow, who had to pass David Meldrum in Heat 5 and Kelly Kerrigan collected 3 points each whilst surprise packet of the night Adam Mittl collected a 2nd place which was enough for him to join Barlow and McConnell in the Main Final on the front row.  The Last Chance was unlucky for Kerrigan as he fell off whilst comfortably in 2nd place allowing Mann to claim a spot in the Main Final at his expense.  In the Main Final Barlow won from the gate although Venegas kept up the pressure whilst back in 3rd place McConnell did well to keep Cooper at bay for his 3rd place.
